Hi there,
I'm Laura Adkins BSc (Hons) MSc - Clinical Animal Behaviourist. I use kind, supportive and up to date techniques to help you have a happier life with your animals.
Whilst I have the knowledge base to work with a variery of animals, I largely work with dogs and have a particular interest in rescue dogs and "dog reactive" dogs.
I work with anyone who is willing to dedicate the time and effort that their animals need to move forwards.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Laura
If your dog is presenting challenging behaviours that are causing problems or concern, help is available through a behaviour consultation.
Examples of these behaviours often include (but are not limited to):
In order to get as much information as possible to understand your situation, try to get to the root cause of the problem and build the most suitable plan to help you move forwards, a behaviour consultation is needed on veterinary referral.
Health and behaviour can be very closely linked, so it is important to make your vet aware of the problem before a behaviour plan is put in place.
Currently, all consultations are via online video calling platforms. Online appointments have been very successful and in many cases they have actually been more appropriate. I am happy to guide you on getting set up if you are unsure of how to do this.
Follow-up sessions can take place at your home, on a walk, at the private secure paddock I use at TFM Country Store in Whisby, or online via Zoom. Each of these options will depend on the current regulations put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, so I will help you in whichever way I am allowed to at the time to keep everyone safe.
Please get in touch so that we can discuss your needs. I will then send you the relevant paperwork to complete.
Private sessions can be booked to suit your needs and can cover specific topics such as:
Your initial session will last up to 1.5 hours and you will later be provided with written information to cover what we discussed.
Any additional sessions can be booked by the hour as often as you need.

PLEASE NOTE - If your dog is presenting problematic behaviours such as those listed on the ‘Behaviour Consultations page’, a full behaviour consultation will be needed in order to help you. If you book a training session for something and then tell me about additional more serious problems once I arrive, I will still need you to book a behaviour consultation and complete the necessary paperwork before any advice can be given.

If you have any questions or concerns before or after bringing your new puppy home, you can book a session with me to talk them through and I can advise you on what you can do.
Examples of these may include:The initial session will be 1.5 hours and you will be provided with notes on what we talked about either via written handouts or video links.
These sessions can be booked individually or you can book multiple sessions to cover different topics to suit the level of support that you need. After the initial session, follow-up sessions will last for 1 hour.
If you want to learn about teaching your puppy all the essential foundations, developing lovely manners, and building a wonderful relationship with you and your family, a private course is available over multiple hour-long sessions to cover all the essentials to get you and your puppy set up for a fabulous future together.
Activities covered include:
Sessions can be arranged either weekly or fortnightly and you can contact me between sessions if you have any questions or concerns. I will be here to support you throughout the course.

Laura Adkins BSc (Hons) MSc
Clinical Animal Behaviourist & Trainer
The Latin word “juvo” means to ‘help, support and further’ which is exactly what I am here to do for you.
I achieved my honours degree in Animal Behaviour Science and my Masters degree in Clinical Animal Behaviour from the University of Lincoln. I was extremely fortunate to have been taught by Daniel Mills and Helen Zulch, two of the world’s leading veterinary behaviourists, among other fantastic individuals in the field.
I have worked and volunteered with animals for over 10 years through behaviour sessions, training classes, veterinary surgeries, rescue centres, and an assistance dog charity. If there was ever an opportunity to gain some experience I was there!
Whilst having academic qualifications and a range of experience, education is never ending so I regularly attend conferences, seminars and workshops to keep up to date with the current scientific research in the area.
I have achieved pre-certification as a Clinical Animal Behaviourist with ASAB (Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour) and will be working towards full CCAB accreditation with the support of FABC (Fellowship of Animal Behaviour Clinicians).
In addition to my behaviour qualifications I am an accredited Canine Hoopers UK instructor, and have achieved both my level 1 and level 2 qualifications in British Sign Language.
I promote kind, force-free, science based approaches and believe that the key to helping an animal overcome a problem or learn a new skill is to understand them and their people as individuals and build a trusting relationship between them.
